Cornelius Stillhard, Trogen, patient in the GLA:D program at Berit Klinik Speicher After experiencing discomfort in my right leg, my family doctor diagnosed me with "early-stage" osteoarthritis in my right knee a little over 10 years ago. In the years that followed, the pain was bearable, so I continued to be active in sports (soccer, running, cycling) until about a year ago, when an inflammatory process with pain temporarily severely limited my activity. The diagnosis of an orthopedist recommended to me was quite devastating: "Advanced osteoarthritis in both hips and both knees – no alternative treatment options – surgery as soon as the pain becomes unbearable." This prospect left me feeling uneasy, so I sought a second opinion and was referred to the GLA:D osteoarthritis training program by this orthopedist. I was happy to take advantage of this option, which was previously unknown to me. I now train twice a week at the Berit Clinic in Speicher under the supervision of a physical therapist. After just a few training sessions, I have already experienced a noticeable improvement and feel stronger overall – this motivates me to train the crucial muscles and ligaments. The course lasts 8-10 weeks, and for me, the time invested is well worth it. I want to avoid surgery for as long as possible and remain physically active as before. The GLA:D osteoarthritis training program is a welcome alternative for me to achieve this goal. It helps me to cope better with the osteoarthritis in my joints.
