By offering the GLA:D® Switzerland Osteoarthritis Program, the Berit Clinic is pursuing the clear goal of improving the quality of life for people with osteoarthritis. Osteoarthritis is the most common joint disease in Switzerland and worldwide. International guidelines from relevant professional associations recommend a combination of counseling, instruction, exercises, and—if necessary—weight control as treatment for knee and hip osteoarthritis. This is where the GLA:D® program offered by the Berit Clinic comes in. It does not matter how advanced the osteoarthritis in the hip or knee is. The program is open to everyone and can be started at any time. Patients should attend group sessions twice a week, which anyone interested can sign up for. The costs are usually covered by health insurance. The courses should be attended for 8 to 10 weeks. There are also two lectures where participants can get more information about the clinical picture and how to deal with osteoarthritis. During the course sessions, physiotherapists Claudia or Stephanie actively support the participants and guide them through the program. With a combination of exercise training and patient education, the program aims to relieve pain and improve quality of life. Despite the group training, the physical therapists respond individually to the needs of all participants. They accompany, motivate, and give tips for the best results. Exercises for at home are also demonstrated.
