Hanspeter Betschart Remains Chief Medical Officer of the Swiss Olympic Delegation

Swiss Olympic and the “Chief Medical Officer” of the Swiss Olympic Team, Hanspeter Betschart, have extended their partnership for another four years. This means that the 41-year-old native of St. Gallen will continue to lead the medical team for the Swiss delegation at the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles and the 2030 Winter Olympics in the French Alps.

In 2022, Hanspeter Betschart took over the role of “Chief Medical Officer” of the Swiss Olympic Team from Patrik Noack. In this capacity, Betschart led the Swiss delegation’s medical team at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris and the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milano Cortina. Now, Swiss Olympic and Hanspeter Betschart have agreed to extend their successful partnership for another four years. The 41-year-old chief medical officer of the Berit Sportclinic in Speicher (AR) will thus also be responsible for the medical care of the Swiss Olympic Team at the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles and the 2030 Winter Olympics in the French Alps.

As Chief Medical Officer, Betschart assembles the team of physicians and physical therapists for the Swiss Olympic delegation and is responsible for the medical care of the Swiss delegation during the Olympic Games. In the run-up to the Games, he coordinates the delegation’s medical preparations and ensures compliance with the relevant guidelines of the International Olympic Committee and the organizing committee.

Prior to his appointment as “Chief Medical Officer” of Swiss Olympic, Hanspeter Betschart had already led the medical team for the Swiss youth delegations for ten years. At the elite level, he was a member of the medical team at PyeongChang 2018, Tokyo 2020, and Beijing 2022. In addition to his work for Swiss Olympic and as Chief Medical Officer of the Berit Sportclinic in Speicher (Appenzell Ausserrhoden), Betschart also serves as a team physician for several national sports federations.
