Nadja Fässler at the World’s Largest Trail Running Event

Chamonix – An unforgettable experience with seven grueling hours on the trails: Nadja Fässler from Appenzell competed in this year’s OCC as part of the UTMB in Chamonix. The race, covering 61 kilometers and approximately 3,500 meters of elevation gain, is one of the most famous and sought-after trail running races in the world.

Even the days leading up to the race were very special for Nadja. The unique atmosphere in Chamonix, the many runners from all over the world, and the large crowds of spectators created an impressive vibe. “It was incredible to be part of this event. The atmosphere and vibe in Chamonix were truly one-of-a-kind,” says Nadja.

However, on the evening before the race, she injured her toe. Despite the severe pain, she decided to stand at the starting line the next morning. This turned the race into a special challenge.

On the challenging course from Orsières to Chamonix, Nadja felt very strong and her legs were in top form. However, the pain in her toe plagued her throughout the entire race and made it impossible for her to perform at her full potential.

After a little more than seven hours, she finally reached the finish line in Chamonix and placed 27th, finishing in the top 30 in the women’s elite field.

“My legs felt great, and I actually had a really good feeling going in. But because of my toe, the downhill sections were incredibly painful, so I couldn’t run the way I’d planned,” says Nadja.

Still, what stands out most is the joy of participating in one of the world’s biggest trail running events. And the next dream has already been set: Someday, Nadja Fässler would like to return to Chamonix—healthy, in top form, and with the chance to show just what she’s truly capable of on that course.
