Functionality and technology

The VELYS™ Robotic-Assisted Solution was developed to improve surgical precision. This CT-free system supports the surgeon with information to place the prosthesis even more accurately.

First, after exposing the joint and attaching reflectors, the surface of the diseased joint is scanned. A 3D model of the joint is then created, taking into account the ligaments and the leg axis. The surgeon can then plan the individual surgical steps on the screen. The system then simulates the expected result before the actual preparation of the bone is carried out. The surgeon then performs the planned saw cuts together with the system's robotic arm.

Precise and consistent execution

A high-speed camera, the three-dimensional mobility of the robotic arm, and the hydrophobic optical reflectors work together to adjust the resection plane in real time. This ensures precise and consistent execution of the plan. With this system, the prosthesis can be customized for each individual patient and used optimally. Previous data show that this surgical technique can shorten healing time and improve functional outcomes.

Training, experience, successes

The surgeons at the Berit Klinik are specially trained and certified for the VELYS™ system to ensure safe and successful use. The Berit Klinik was the first clinic in Switzerland and the second in Europe to have two VELYS™ systems. Robot-assisted surgery is part of our daily routine. Several hundred procedures have already been successfully performed with this system. Our experience with the VELYS™ robot has been very promising so far.

Not every surgeon at the Berit Klinik uses the Attune Velys™ system. The most important criterion for a successful operation is still the experience of the surgeon. At Berit, knee prostheses are only implanted by surgeons with many years of experience and proven expertise.
